Many who are not from the state of Texas barely realize that the island of Galveston while not largely populated is starting becoming a home for Combative Sports in the Houston Metropolitan Area. One promotion, Superior Combative Championships (SCC) hopes to be an integral part in the islands upcoming combat sports scene.
“This is our 7th show in Galveston and we are looking to expand our reach soon.” Says, SCC Promoter Stephen Lawhorn. “We want to continue to do what we are doing here and hope to do more.”
Their eighth overall promotional event properly titled Superior VIII is a showcase of 14 scheduled matches takes place in Galveston August 1st and features two title matches. Lawhorn feels that their promotional success comes from their willingness to work with new talent. “We believe in giving fighters a shot and that is what we are known for.” states Lawhorn. “That policy has really helped us grow.”More than just a promotional event to benefit fighters, a portion of the proceeds for this event will be donated to Holt’s Journey. Holt Griffith is a 5 year old boy diagnosed with Acute Lymphobastic Leukemia and is receiving treatment at Texas Children’s Hospital. The donations will help cover his medical expenses.
“We (SCC) all come together and decide every event where we will donate to. We are a family friendly and Christian based league. so we are dedicated to giving back to community and those in need.
The card features in action Fabien Galavez, Jacob Silva, Daniel Turner, Lincoln Hilton and Texas City’s Dominique Wiltz.
