Fighter Spotlight: Ramsey Luna of Corpus Christi, Texas
Why did you get into boxing?
This is going to sound weird but I got into boxing after having a dream of me winning a boxing match. The dream was really detailed of me standing on the ring ropes, hands held high, etc. That was enough for me to tell my dad that I wanted to be a boxer and we moved forwarded with it. I have been a pro for 11 years now.
What are your plans for the rest of the year?
I am working with my management team to get a couple of good fights by years end. I have terrific trainers at Premier Boxing Gym that are showing me new techniques and things everyday.
What is something about you that people would find surprising?
I’m a gamer and love playing video games when I can find time. My Favorite game is Call of Duty: Zombie Edition.
Who is your favorite boxer?
All time I would have to say Julio Ceasar Chavez. Definitely JCC. But right now, I have to say Loma( Featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko). That guy is unreal with his talent.
We are fresh off of the Mayweather vs McGregor bout. What are your thoughts?
First people don’t realize that boxing isn’t a easy sport and I think this fight showed that. Mayweather had a plan and executed it simple as that. Boxing is a sport where you have to stay calm if you want to win in the ring. Your mind will play games with you in the ring when you are getting hit or hitting others.
Any advice for people wanting to get into boxing?
Boxing is a mental sport more than it is a physical one. If you are not mentally tough, you wont be tough physically and wont make it in this sport.
