WWE Top Five: The Rise of Kofi Kingston

This has been a wild week in WWE. From NXT call-ups to new contenders, WWE has been shaken up. Let’s jump into some honorable mentions for the week.

Honorable Mentions

Toni Storm: The current UK Women’s Champion had her very first title defense against the woman she won the title from, Rhea Ripley, and she looked just as impressive as when she first won it. Toni Storm is one of those women on the NXT UK roster who shouldn’t be there long. She will probably be moved to the main roster as soon as she drops the title, and it is well deserved.

Boss N Hug Connection: Sasha Banks and Bayley did not have a match this week, but they did something to make WWE fans happy: They announced that they will be defending their newly-won Women’s Tag Team Championships across all three brands, including NXT. This opens up the ranks for even more teams to challenge for those championships. I cannot wait.

Mandy Rose: God’s Greatest Creation rounds out my honorable mentions this week with a pinfall win over the Smackdown Live Women’s Champion Asuka. Asuka doesn’t have a clear challenger at the moment, and Mandy beating her puts her at the forefront. We will see if this momentum continues.

Top Five

#5 Aleister Black: My personal favorite of the newest NXT call-ups had probably the least impactful debut. With Aleister defeating Elias on Monday and then Andrade on Tuesday, he looked great; but against names that don’t hold too much weight. Had Aleister defeated Dean Ambrose instead of Elias on Monday, he would sit much higher on the list. However, we have not seen the best from Aleister, and fans better get ready for this guy.

#4 Velveteen Dream: Prepare yourself for the Dream Experience. Velveteen breaks my list for the first time with his win over the North American Champion to become the new champion. Velveteen has been killing it in NXT, and to see him finally win a championship is amazing. This man is going to shoot to the stars, and he has a chance to become one of the most popular superstars when he finally get his shot at the main roster. You can bet on that.

#3 Ricochet: The next NXT call-up gets the three spot. If you haven’t seen Ricochet work, then I don’t know what you are doing with your life. He is damn near superhuman, oozes charisma, and has all the makings of a big star. He teamed up with Finn Balor to defeat the team of Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush in a high-flying match; then he defeated Eric Young the next night. This upcoming week could be an exciting week for Ricochet.

#2 DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa): The return of DIY on the main roster was huge. For those who don’t know, Ciampa and Gargano have a long and storied history, full of success and betrayal, that has captivated NXT fans for over two years. To see them not only on the main roster, but also to see them defeat the likes of the current Raw Tag Champs in The Revival and former champs The Bar on Smackdown, is a great thing. WWE must see something in them, and they might be the next big tag team to come out of NXT.

#1 Kofi Kingston: No one deserves this spot more than Kofi Kingston. The 11-year veteran is finally receiving his shot, and fans are loving it. He proved himself in the gauntlet match a few years ago, and now that he has pinned WWE Champion Daniel Bryan twice, he is finally getting the recognition he has deserved. Good on you, Kofi, and good luck in your future championship match.

Last week was an exciting week for fans who have been a little disappointed in past shows, and it will be interesting to see how these superstars will fare this week. Check back next week to see where your favorite superstars will be.
