A Changing Landscape and New Opportunities: Predicting the Future for All Champions in WWE

Another Wrestlemania has come and gone, and the landscape of WWE has changed dramatically. At the “Showcase of the Immortals” a lot of championships changed hands, and with that comes brand new challengers. Let’s take a look at all the championships and what is in their future after Wrestlemania week.

Let’s start with our brand across the pond and look at the future for the NXT UK Championships.

NXT UK Tag Team Championships: Zack Gibson and James Drake

Zack Gibson has been out of action since the Grizzled Young Veterans, but that doesn’t mean teams aren’t looking to compete. No clear-cut contenders have risen since Gibson and Drake won the titles, but that might be changing soon. The high flying team of Amir Jordan and Kenny Williams have started to gain some momentum, and all signs point to them getting a future title shot. However, I believe a long title reign is in the future for the champs.

NXT UK Women’s Championship: Toni Storm

Toni Storm has just defended her championship against Rhea Ripley and recently against Jinny. After beating Jinny cleanly and Rhea suffering an injury, I can see Toni disappearing until a more deserving challenger steps forward. At the moment I can only think of Nina Samuels, but I haven’t heard much from her so I’m not entirely sure.

United Kingdom Championship: Walter

Walter dethroned the longest reigning champion in the modern era when he defeated Pete Dunne in a fantastic match at NXT Takeover: New York. With Dunne possibly getting called up to the main roster, there is a free spot in the title picture. Enter Joe Coffey. Coffey was on the receiving end of Walter’s arrival; expect the Scot to be looking for revenge.

Now let’s head to NXT, the main roster’s proving ground for new talent. A lot of future matchups are on the horizon that I am genuinely excited about.

NXT Tag Team Championships: War Raiders

Now that Ricochet and Aleister Black are most likely making the permanent jump to the main roster, the tag team division is wide open for new challengers. The two teams I can see challenging next are The Forgotten Sons and The Undisputed Era. Since UE have already had their chance, I’m expecting the team of Cutler and Blake to step up to the War Raiders. The power and brutality of both teams make this an exciting matchup.

North American Championship: Velveteen Dream

Velveteen Dream defeated Matt Riddle in an upset at Takeover. Dream was able to roll up Riddle, shocking him because Riddle had been absolutely dominant. I have to assume that the rollup will give Riddle a claim to a rematch in the future. If that happens, I can see Riddle getting the upper hand and winning.

NXT Women’s Championship: Shayna Baszler

Shayna just defeated three other women in her last defense, but one of those women hasn’t been submitted by her yet. That woman is Io Shirai. Kairi Sane might be getting called up, but Bianca Belair must go to the back of the line after being choked out twice. Io has not had a one-on-one opportunity against Shayna, and when she gets that shot, I predict that Io will come out victorious.

NXT Championship: Johnny Gargano

Johnny Gargano finally achieved his goal of becoming NXT Champion, but now the hard part begins. Adam Cole is going to want a rematch, and I can see Domink Dijakovic being involved in a feud. Look out for either of these guys to get a shot at Johnny Champion.

Smackdown Live

The show that will be heading to Fox very soon is next. Let’s see where each champion is going down the line.

Smackdown Tag Team Championships: The Hardyz

Even though the Usos left Wrestlemania with their titles, they didn’t leave Smackdown Live with them. In a surprise match, the Hardyz defeated the Usos to become the new tag champs. With the Usos possibly moving to Raw, I can see either The Bar or Sanity making a play for the Tag Team titles. Sanity might be wishful thinking, as WWE has wasted the potential of the group. But with creative making changes behind the scenes, I would love to see Sanity used in a big way.

United States Championship: Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe has a huge task ahead of him. On Smackdown Live, Braun Strowman showed up to let Joe know that he is in his sights. This will be Joe’s biggest test since going one on one with Brock Lesnar. I can see Joe being able to escape enough to make Braun angry, possibly resulting in Braun gaining his first United States Championship on his career.

Smackdown Women’s Champion and Raw Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch

It is obvious what is next for Becky Lynch. A tough test with Lacey Evans is in the wings for Becky, and she better watch out. Lacey is crazy powerful with a great gimmick that could prove too much for Becky. The question is, though, which championship Lacey would compete for.

WWE Championship: Kofi Kingston

Kofi won his very first world title and created history at the same time at Wrestlemania. The Scottish Psychopath is ready to rain on his parade. With Drew McIntyre invading Smackdown last week, it is looking like Drew is ready to step into that main event spotlight and try to end the uplifting story that is Kofi Kingston.

Monday Night Raw

This is the mainstay of WWE, with new champions all around the roster, including new Women’s Tag Team Champions and Cruiserweight Champion. Let’s see what we have in store.

Cruiserweight Championship: Tony Nese

The newly crowned Cruiserweight Champion has defeated former champion Buddy Murphy twice now, so expect Tony Nese to move on from Murphy. Mike Kanellis has been making waves on social media, complaining that he wasn’t in the tournament that Nese won to determine Murphy’s Wrestlemania opponent. This could be the reason we see Kanellis challenge Nese next for that championship.

Women’s Tag Team Championships: The IIconics

The IIconics shocked the world by winning the Women’s Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania. With Boss N Hug Connection seemingly dropping out of contention and Nia Jax tearing both her ACLs, new challengers are on the horizon. Paige teased a new team that she was planning on bringing to face off with The IIconics. My guess is that it could be Asuka and Kairi Sane. Both women are not great on the mics, but they are amazing in the ring, and Asuka has a history with Peyton Royce and Billy Kay. This would be the smartest way to bring up Kairi and give Asuka something to do. Even if this happens, I expect The IIconics to have an extended reign with the titles.

Raw Tag Team Championships: Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins

This was another shock for the WWE Universe at Wrestlemania. No one expected them to defeat The Revival, but they did it. I believe The Revival are not done with them. They fought hard to gain those titles, and they won’t be moving on easily. With the Usos possibly making the jump, Raw will need top heels to be carrying the titles. I expect The Revival to regain the Championships sooner rather then later.

Intercontinental Championship: Finn Balor

The Demon destroyed Bobby Lashley at Wrestlemania, meaning Lashley should be heading to the back of the line. Enter The Freak, Lars Sullivan. The man is a monster and could have some great matches with Balor. It would also be a great way to legitimize Sullivan early on and show how dominant he can be against the much smaller Finn Balor. I think it’s too early to give Sullivan the title, so Balor should hold on.

Universal Championship: Seth Rollins

The Beast Slayer did exactly what he said he would do. He dethroned Brock Lesnar and brought the Universal Championship back to the fans. Now that we have a full time champion, a new challenger must be ready to step up. It is still unknown who that will be, but with the shakeup happening soon, a rival could be stepping froward from the blue brand. My guess is Daniel Bryan. Bryan has picked up steam since turning heel. The prospect of Rollins and Bryan is extremely exciting. Bryan has nothing else to prove on Smackdown, so a move to Raw is the next logical move for him. Expect this to be a long program, with Bryan possibly taking down Rollins after a few unsuccessful attempts.

The landscape of WWE is very uncertain and that is exciting. With new stars being made and young up-and-comers looking to make names for themselves, this is the most exciting time for WWE fans.
